Introduction to kundalini Yoga Class
Hi – I’m Deborah! I’m a latecomer to yoga having only found my way with it in my 40’s, but I’m such a firm fan now that I decided to train recently as a kundalini yoga teacher. This yoga has given me a mechanism to explore spirituality and a way to really get deep into meditation in a way that I’ve not experienced when trying to meditate on my own at home.
I love to share my passion with others – so I decided to set up these introductory classes. If you get only a fraction of the experience I’ve had with it to date then you’re going to love it 🙂
You can book a space via the PhysioFlow website.
What is kundalini yoga?
Kundalini yoga is designed to activate and balance the energy centres in your body (also called ‘chakras’), promoting physical health, emotional stability, intuition and spiritual growth.
It combines physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation and sound to awaken the dormant energy believed to reside at the base of the spine, known as kundalini. This ancient form of yoga focuses on harnessing this powerful energy to achieve spiritual awakening and heightened consciousness.
There’s lots more information about Kundalini yoga on this website, a good starting place is the ‘about kundalini yoga‘ page.
How physically demanding is it?
This class will be a gentle introduction. Whilst some kundalini yoga can be physically challenging (in a good way!), this is planned to be a less demanding session to make it suitable for total beginners – even those who have never done any form of yoga.
You will be asked to sit on a mat for the class – if you’re unable to sit cross-legged then you’re welcome to adjust the seating position so that you’re comfortable. During the class you will also be invited to kneel for some movements, though adjustments for this can be provided if needed. You will also be invited to lie down on your back on the mat for part of the class. None of this class will be done standing up, so you will be on the floor for the full hour.

What to bring with you
Wear comfortable clothing suitable for yoga that you’re happy to sit on a mat on the floor wearing (e.g. leggings or loose trousers). The amount of movement will vary throughout the class, so wearing layers so that you can adjust depending on how warm or cold you feel would be suitable.
During the class you will be either sitting, kneeling or lying on a yoga mat, so if you need support in order to do this then please feel free to bring any cushions with you that will make you more comfortable for this.
Mats and blankets will be provided, however if you have your own that you prefer to use for yoga, please feel free to bring it.
A water bottle to keep you hydrated is a great idea. If you’re like me and breathwork can make your nose run, then bring some tissues 🙂
